The 40-year-old Austrian Ewald – brother of Richie from Rimini – leaves his girlfriend and decides to open a judo school in a Romanian town. Together with some boys from the neighborhood, he transforms a dilapidated school building, which they rename asntheir paradise: Sparta. They march around wearing Greek helmets and oiled bodies and don’t want to go back home in the evenings. Until even their heavily intoxicated fathers start to notice, and Ewald is confronted with the bitter truth.

Written by Seidl and Veronika Franz, Rimini and Sparta were originally conceived and shot as one film titled Wicked Games (German: Böse Spiele), and were split into two during the post-production. Based on the story of a German man arrested in Romania in 2010, Sparta was filmed in Germany, Austria, and Romania.
