Wat Bakema betekende voor de Nederlandse architectuur was Arthur Erickson voor de Canadese. Erickson ontwierp vele universiteits-, kantoor-,overheidsgebouwen en musea. Aan de vooravond van zijn lange carrière ontwierphij een klein buitenhuis dat lang geheim is gebleven: The Dyde House.Kenmerkend voor Ericksson werk is dat hij de grenzen tussen binnen en buitenvervaagd. Liefhebbers beschouwen zijn werk dan ook als ‘land art’ of landschapsarchitectuur. Hoewel vele malen kleiner dan de rest van zijn werk,behelst het buitenhuis al zijn ontwerpprincipes, die in zijn latere engrootschalige projecten zijn terug te zien.

Very early in his career he designed a small countryhouse that remained unknown for a long time: the Dyde House. A feature ofErickson’s work is the blurring of the boundaries between indoors and outdoors.That is why aficionados see his work as ‘land art’ or landscape architecture.Although far smaller than his other works, the country house embodies all the design principles that can be found in his later, larger projects.
