De film biedt een intiem perspectief op Alani’s complexe relatie met Irak, het geboorteland van zijn ouders. Alani, opgegroeid in Parijs, ontdekt tijdens zijn bezoeken aan Irak de vele facetten van het land onder het bewind van Saddam Hoessein, de Amerikaanse bezetting en de opkomst van Islamitische Staat tussen 1989 en 2017.

The film offers an intimate perspective on Alani’s complex relationship with Iraq, the homeland of his parents. Raised in Paris, Alani discovers the many facets of the country during his visits—under Saddam Hussein’s regime, the American occupation, and the rise of the Islamic State, spanning from 1989 to 2017.
Tracing Alani’s path from childhood to adulthood, the film captures his growing awareness of Iraq’s social and political realities. Through compelling storytelling and striking visuals, it presents a Middle Eastern viewpoint on U.S. involvement in the region—from the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait to the American-led war in Iraq.
