Na een overdonderend concert op de World Music Expo 2018 konden wij niet anders dan de nieuwe Kaapverdische ster-in-wording Lucibela voor een exclusief Nederlands concert naar LantarenVenster halen, om de muziek van haar prachtige debuutalbum Laço Umbilical te presenteren aan het Rotterdamse publiek.
De warme stem van Lucibela, geboren in 1986 op het eiland São Nicolau, werd gevormd door het jarenlang beoefenen van de typische Kaapverdische morna- en coladera-muziekstijlen. Ze begon haar carrière op de middelbare school, en zong later in hotels in Boa Vista.
Ze brak door op de Atlantic Music Expo van 2017, wat leidde tot uitnodigingen voor concerten in België en Lissabon. In Portugal werd Lucibela door de media steevast met haar idool Cesária vergeleken. Ze is dan ook vastbesloten om de missie van deze legendarische Kaapverdiaanse zangeres voort te zetten: de hele wereld laten kennismaken met de verbluffende schoonheid van de Kaapverdische muziek. In Portugal nam ze voor het Lusafrica label ook haar prachtige debuutalbum Laço Umbilical op, onder leiding van Cesária’s producer en musical director Paulino Vieira.
