On November 25th, in honor of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, LantarenVenster and Squish invite you to a special Queer Cinema event. Through a diverse lineup of films, we’ll explore the fight for gender rights with a range of tones and genres—from sharp satire to powerful revolutionary narratives. Each film offers a unique perspective on resilience, resistance, and empowerment, highlighting feminist and queer voices.

Gio Potes: Again 15’ (Philippines)
After the 1986 People Power Revolution, two male lovers reunite to reflect on their past during Martial Law and discuss their future in hopes of peace.

Ayesha Fernandez: Clocked 7’ (Mexico)
Seven must defend his identity against the two men overseeing his audition, revealing the trauma and struggle he’s faced to reach this point. As more trans stories and individuals are erased, this narrative is more crucial than ever.

Adriana Vecchioli: COMIN’ IN HOT 12,5’ (France)
Behind the wheel of a sleek Thunderbird, a bored housewife’s lust for adventure leads her to an unexpected oasis where passion and suds run rampant…

Dorian & Oliver Harry Shine: Feminine Singular 72’ (Argentina)
A performance art documentary portraying 30 Argentine female identities with the unique voices of women aged between 4 & 80. They share their stories of resilience, strength & unique perspectives on what it means ’to be a woman’.

Ufuk Umut Uğur: Makul (Reasonable) 3,5’ (Turkey)
A harassed woman tries to explain this problem to her friends in a reasonable way.

Olivier Avellan: Near 5’ (France)
By the time she realizes the danger that has plunged the city into panic, it’s too late to hope for escape. Despite her pregnancy, Claire will have to contend with a dense and agitated crowd, far too numerous to fit into the only remaining train.

Wasan Hayajneh: Electra Wasp 6’ (US)
An experimental animated psychobiography about the death and life of trailblazing pilot Amelia Earhart. It is a retrospective of her emotional world and an exploration of what drove her to pursue her passion for flying.

Tina Ahmadi Krol: Toranj 9,5’ (Iran)
During the protests of 2022 in Iran, a mother is trying to save her daughter’s life who has been shot and keep her younger daughter safe, while the police are doing everything in their power to arrest them.

With an intersectional approach, it questions identity politics through multidisciplinary events focused on self-representation and peer support. Squish fosters connections between arts, politics, and communities, hosting everything from performative club nights to contemporary art exhibitions.

It also nurtures emerging programmers and producers, providing financial and professional support to younger and marginalized artists, in collaboration with both emerging and established cultural workers.
