Tatami is a captivating political thriller inspired by true events that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Judoka Leila (Arienne Mandi) and her coach Maryam (Zar Amir) attend the World Judo Championship with the goal of winning a gold medal for Iran. Leila is prepared and has a strong chance of victory. However, the Iranian regime intervenes when they realize she might have to compete against an Israeli opponent in a later round. They make every effort to pull Leila from the competition. As her own freedom and that of her family are put at risk, Leila faces an impossible choice: succumb to the regime’s pressure or seize the opportunity for gold.

Zar Amir (Holy Spider) co-directed the film with Guy Nattiv, making Tatami the first feature film co-directed by an Iranian and an Israeli filmmaker. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Brian Award, honoring values of freedom of expression, respect for human rights, and democracy.
