Alexandra Kusa heeft als museumdirecteur een onmogelijke taak: de renovatie van de Slowaakse Nationale Galerie. Het SNG, bestaande uit een classicistisch bouwwerk gecombineerd met een brutalistische uitbreiding, is al jaren niet meer in gebruik en fungeert lange tijd als kunstopslag. Een grootschalige renovatie is de enige oplossing. Afhankelijk van nationale fondsen wordt de renovatie een politieke strijd, waarin ook haar persoon ter discussie komt te staan. Onder Kafkaëske omstandigheden leidt ze haar team door het woud van politiek, financiering, vergunningsaanvragen en de bouw.
