The Brutalist - Expat Cinema Rotterdam

Brady Corbet

The Brutalist will be screened with a 15-minute intermission.

Nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Roles!

Director Brady Corbet (Vox Lux, 2018) returns with an epic story starring Adrien Brody as Jewish-Hungarian architect László Toth, who flees Europe at the end of World War II to rebuild his life in America.

The visionary architect László Toth leaves post-war Europe behind for America, seeking a fresh start in his work, his life, and his marriage to his wife, Erzsébet (Felicity Jones), after being separated by shifting borders and regimes during the war. Arriving alone in a foreign land, he settles in Pennsylvania, where wealthy and influential industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren, played by Guy Pearce, recognizes his architectural talent. Van Buren commissions him for a monumental new project—Toth’s grand dream—but as the project progresses, he is forced to sacrifice more and more of himself to fulfill his demanding vision.

The Brutalist is an incredibly ambitious undertaking by Corbet, once again collaborating with co-writer Mona Fastvold. Adrien Brody delivers a powerful performance as a man striving to rebuild his life, his love, and his home—all as part of the same relentless pursuit.
