Miss seeing international films because you can’t yet keep up with the Dutch subtitles? Want to meet fellow expats and new Dutch folks? Love cinema? Then this is the event for you! Join Expat Cinema Rotterdam for the best international art house cinema with English subtitles.

A delightful, lively, and thrilling documentary. A story so full of surprises, eccentric characters, and unbelievable events that only a Scandinavian writer could dream it up. Except this time, it’s real.

Norwegian sisters Kari and May buy an apartment in the Swedish village of Gullspång. To their astonishment, the seller, Olaug, bears an uncanny resemblance to their older sister, who committed suicide in 1988. She even shares the same nickname, Lita. The devout sisters immediately believe it’s a miracle—this was meant to be. The lonely Olaug is warmly welcomed into Kari and May’s large family. But this is just the start of a phenomenal rollercoaster, where coincidences and revelations come at an ever-increasing pace.

What begins as a fascinating family drama turns into a Coen Brothers-style comedy, an authentic true crime story, and ultimately Twin Peaks in real life. Nothing is as it seems—or is it? The Gullspång Miracle is full of comically awkward situations and features characters any filmmaker would kill for. It’s a film about the complexity of family ties, identity, and the stubbornness of beliefs.
