In de jaren negentig belanden de oprichters van LOT-EK, de Napolitaanse architecten Ada Tolla en Giuseppe Lignano, in New York, een destijds onaantrekkelijke en rauwe stad. In al die onvolmaaktheden zien Tolla en Lignano schoonheid. Waar anderen restafval zien, beschouwen zij het als bouwmaterialen voor hun architectuur- en interieurontwerpen. Wanneer ze voor het eerst een containerpark bezoeken, realiseren ze zich de potentie van dit industriële product. Met kinderlijk enthousiasme ontwikkelen zij een oeuvre door zeecontainers op te waarderen tot hoogwaardige woningen.

Tolla and Lignano saw beauty in all its imperfections. Whereothers saw residual waste, they found construction materials for theirarchitecture and interior design. When they first came across a container park,they realized the potential of this industrial product. With childlikeenthusiasm, they have compiled a body of work by upcycling sea containers intohigh-end homes.
