What do you do when your son no longer wants to live? In Witte Flits, 42-year-old Rick (Sanne den Hartogh) has battled severe psychological issues for over 20 years. After an intensive, years-long journey, he receives approval for euthanasia due to unbearable and hopeless suffering. Now, his parents, Aagje (Renée Soutendijk) and Toon (Raymond Thiry), face the heartbreaking challenge of letting him go for good.
Director Laura Hermanides was profoundly moved in 2013 by two parents who lovingly supported their son in his struggle for euthanasia due to unbearable psychological pain. Her years of contact with these parents and others closely involved ultimately inspired her debut film, Witte Flits.
